In 1930’s Graffiti Club, Simon Vazquez plays with time, identity, and absurd rebellion. The figure at the center is dressed like a gentleman from a bygone era—buttoned-up in a crisp shirt, tie, and smart blue blazer. A dramatic, curling handlebar moustache arcs across his face, conjuring echoes of Dali and the exaggerated style of early 20th-century caricature. But what he’s holding disrupts the nostalgia entirely: an old perfume atomizer, visually twisted into something more mischievous—its nozzle reshaped into a modern graffiti tag, mid-spray.

This clash of elegance and subculture is typical of Vazquez’s twisted visual world. With its aged comic book palette and vintage poster vibe, the print feels like a relic from a fictional past—one where society’s rules were rewritten with a spray can. There’s humour here, but also critique: a nod to class, performance, and the strange rituals of masculinity.

Originally created as part of a rare series of 2D works, 1930’s Graffiti Club foreshadows the artist’s later sculptural pieces and art toys, now featured by Base Elements Gallery. The same grotesque wit and theatrical staging that defines his 3D figures is present here in line and gesture. The figure seems poised, but not quite at ease—caught between eras, between dignity and defiance.

Each museum-quality giclée print is produced on archival paper and hand-signed by the artist. Limited to just 10 editions, this piece is ideal for collectors drawn to pop surrealism, retro-futurist art, and the intersection of fine art with street aesthetics.

1930’s Graffiti Club doesn’t just bend the rules—it powders its face first, and then tags the wall behind your back.
